Skybombers are a four piece from Melbourne, Australia. The band is comprised of lead vocalist/guitarist Hugh Gurney, guitarist Sam Bethune, bassist Ravi Sharma and drummer Scottie McMurtrie. The band formed while the boys were in high school and began writing and rehearsing the songs that would eventually become their debut EP, Sirens.
Sirens, which was recorded in April 2007, was initially created for the sole purpose of sharing with friends and a small group of fans. But once the songs began circulating the band was approached by and eventually signed a publishing deal and recording deal with Alberts. Next, the band signed a management deal with Fur Management. Months of sold out, high energy shows followed as Skybombers played to 50,000 school kids across Australia on the Rock The Schools tour. They quickly garnered attention as an electrifying live act.
During this time, Skybombers first single, "It Goes Off," started getting airplay on a syndicated US radio show devoted to promoting promising acts from overseas. The show aired on Los Angeles' own, 103.1. Response to the song was overwhelming and after a short while it was added to their daily rotation. Despite not having a record deal or a US management team, the song climbed 103.1's weekly chart, eventually spending a full week in November 2007 at #4 on their play list. "It Goes Off" was also chosen as the official song of the advertising campaign for the Australian Tennis Open by Tennis Australia.
California was calling so Skybombers left Australia and headed to LA. It wasn't long before they signed a management deal with LA's Gold Mountain Entertainment. After a show at The Viper Room, the band was approached by Parker. The producer felt he could bring his unique style to Skybombers' music. Before long the band was in his LA studio, recording their first full length record.
To coincide with the release of their new record, Skybombers went on their first US tour in support of legendary punk rock band X. Skybombers was personally chosen by the iconic act based solely on their live show and the quality of their songs. On the back of this they supported the Foo Fighters in New Zealand.
A thrilling live show and powerful, melodic rock songs have kept Skybombers touring, they have recently finished a US tour with People In Planes, performed in London for Musexpo Europe and will be touching down in Tokyo on 4 November for their first show in Japan.
