Beasts
Of Bourbon
- Little
Animals
The Beasts unleash
their ferocity with the release of Little Animals - April 21.
Some records
should not be taken lightly. This one is the real deal, an unexpected
gift from the gods. The brand new Beasts of Bourbon album is one
of those classic albums, recorded and mixed in three days. It's
their first album of new songs in nine years and it will kick
your arse.
LITTLE ANIMALS,
the long awaited album from Australian rock music legends Beasts
of Bourbon arrives against considerable odds. Last time Tex Perkins,
Spencer Jones, Charlie Owen, Brian Hooper and Tony Pola made a
record, its title turned out to be succinctly prophetic. At the
end of '97, GONE saw them off on the longest hiatus of the Beasts'
23-year tenure, for reasons best unasked or forgotten.
Over six
albums of excoriating, low life rock 'n' roll, the Beasts of Bourbon
had carved their name large and indelibly in Australian rock lore.
In (evil) spirit they're kin to AC/DC, the Stones and the Birthday
Party; in real life their lineage encompasses the Johnnys, the
Surrealists, the Cruel Sea, the New Christs, Tex, Don and Charlie
and too many crash and burn blues / punk rock outfits that fell
foul of the old death or glory equation some time over the last
quarter-century.
Their first
single, I Dont Care About Nothing Anymore, demonstrates
the vigorously unpredictable and explosive atmosphere that we
have all been missing. And there are nine other tracks that give
us all every good reason to get excited about the new edition
to their sentient repertoire.
And as for
Texs famous disclaimer about the Beasts' ongoing volatility:
It's a fairly destructive entity and I would think very
carefully about unleashing it on the world again
"F---k
the world," he says. "It's us I'm worried about."
The Beasts
of Bourbon will be touring in June with tour dates to be announced
soon.

Respected musician
Billy Thorpe has died from a massive heart attack just shy of
his 61st birthday.
He was a constantly performing musician and actively recording.
His last recorded project was a live recording of old and new
material performed in a semi acoustic fashion. Another multimedia
project, "Tangier", is in the final stages of mixing
and a decision about its release will be forthcoming.
"His reputation always preceded him as loudly as his
amps turned up to 11. He gave 110% in everything he did. His performance,
his love of his family, his support of his fellow musicians was
both passionate and selfless - he was the first one to put up
his hand when anybody else was in trouble" - manager
and long time friend - Michael Chugg
Billy had been working tirelessly in his new position on the board
of Support Act Limited - a charity that assists musicians and
their families with financial support in time of need.
"Seeing Billy perform live, long before I was working
in the industry, was a life altering experience and one I've never
forgotten" - Ian "Molly" Meldrum
He is survived by wife Lynne and daughters Lauren and Rusty who
ask for their privacy to be respected at this time.

Mission Australia
- Musings - !5th February 2007
Mission Australia
suggests that government policy makers and community agencies
should listen to a new CD by at-risk young people to help them
better understand this group.
A new CD by 19
at-risk young people, launched last night at Bar Broadway, tackles
serious issues such as family breakdowns, drug and alcohol addiction
and disenchantment with mainstream society.
Musings features
music by young talented songwriters and musicians enrolled in
the Sounds of the Street course at Mission Australia's Creative
Youth Initiatives (CYI) service.
CYI helps young
people, aged 16-25, who are facing challenges such as mental illness,
drug and alcohol abuse, family breakdowns or are at risk of homelessness.
The program helps students build self-esteem, improve communication
skills, encounter positive learning experiences and gain educational
qualifications in music.
CYI's Manager,
Evelyne Tadros, said that songs on Musings express the thoughts
and feelings of young people who do not often get heard.
"Community
agencies and government policy makers in particular, should listen
to this CD as a way of understanding young people and help them
develop effective policies and services that concern this important
group in society," she said.
"There are
quite a few music styles in this album including rock, folk, pop
and punk but each song has lyrics and messages that are brave
and confronting. Our students use their music to explore their
personal issues.
"The creative
arts, such as music, can help young people express themselves
in a positive way," Ms Tadros said.
